Feb 13, 2026
This is an UNESCO related government project to identify traditions, skills and knowledge that communities across the UK pass from generation to generation. We are looking to register The CWWA with Living Heritage. Full details attached.
Inventory of Living Heritage
This is an UNESCO related government project to identify traditions, skills and knowledge that
communities across the UK pass from generation to generation. Its objectives include examining the
support available to these living heritages and the help that might assist their future viability.
Given the project’s relevance to Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, an Expression of Interest
(EOI) was submitted at the end of January and quickly approved. Information on the project and the
CWWA’s EOI are available via the following link:
https://livingheritage.unesco.org.uk
The deadline for a Full Form Submission is 27 March 2026 and its preparation is being undertaken by
Howard Tindall, CWWA President, working in conjunction with Linda Scott, CWWA Vice President
and Robert Wharton, Chairman of the Governing Board.
Wider consultation prior to Submission is important and the options for anyone wishing to provide
feedback are as follows:
• Living Heritage Inventory website - Get involved/ View submitted elements/ Search ‘Cumberland
and Westmorland Wrestling’/ Contact submitter
• Comment box on the CWWA Facebook post on the project
• Email to Howard Tindall at tindallhoward@btinternet.com
A proposal to submit a Full Form Submission also will be considered at the CWWA Annual General
Meeting on 5 March 2026, with invitations due to go out shortly. Arrangements will then be made to
ensure ongoing involvement and information updates.
